So I had a pretty cool bank holiday weekend. Saturday I went into London to do a bit of shopping and ended up in Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue. It’s a dangerous place for a geek to be just after pay day and I ended up going home with a perfectly designed Super Mario figure, an awesome Aliens Vs Predator edition Warriror Alien model and an old school Ghostbusters t-shirt (not the one with the big logo, but the logotype version). Great stuff.

Sunday I met up with miss Kitty for a few drinks and a lot of walking. We ended up in the Photographer’s Gallery on Great Newport Street and took in some Columbian photography at the ‘Once more, with feeling…” exhibition . While the Columbian Goth themed photography of María Isabel Rueda was a little amateurish in my opinion there was a great exhibit by Oscar Muñoz that was themed around portraits of people holding up passport photos of themselves from the 50’s onwards with striking quality and a feeling you get that the people in the photographs are defiant and that they are still here to tell this moving tale. The Photographer’s Gallery, although small, seems to house some well presented photography and even serve food and drinks in the middle of the hall so you can eat, drink and chat away while viewing the work on display.
The next stop was at a gay bar right smack in the middle of Whitehall! Who would have guessed that this area was even as diverse as Soho in some respects! We ended the day with some nice hot ramen at Wagamama, which was well deserved after all the walking and sightseeing we did.

Sunday was another day of shopping with my other half in Uxbridge, we had some great food and drink at The Metropolitan where I pigged out on an Ultimate burger which truly does rival anything that TGI Friday’s can throw at you! I also got to rewatch Aliens Vs Predator 2 : Requiem and on a second viewing I have to say, I kind of enjoyed it – after the disappointing Indiana Jones 4 though, I’d probably enjoy anything! Cool weekend indeed.
